People get divorced for a variety of reasons, but over the years of practicing family law at Kevin Hickey Law Partners, it has been found that there are usually five main reasons for divorce.
1) Adultery is the most common cause of divorce. Adultery is considered adultery out of wedlock. Commitment to each other is what marriage is built on, so it's only natural that infidelity contradicts the very definition of marriage. If you claim that your spouse committed adultery, you must prove it in court.
2) Money and Finance-hot buttons for couples. Financial problems can be safely called one of the main reasons for divorce, which is second only to adultery. Arguments about money are the result of many factors, such as different spending habits and financial goals. According to Dave Ramsey, money is the number one problem that couples fight over, or worse, couples avoid discussing everything together, which leads to even more problems, such as communication problems.
3) Communication problems affect everything in a relationship-from sex, money, family planning, etc. If in If your relationship doesn't have the opportunity to sit down, talk about what's not working, and figure out how to move on, you may end up going down the path of divorce in the future. We found that adultery is often the result of communication failures. Often adulterous relationships begin with a seemingly innocent friendship, an emotional affair, which later develops into a physical romance. Marriages that have communication problems often result in a lack of intimacy, which leads to marital infidelity. It's not just a lack of physical or emotional intimacy, and it's not always about sex.
4) Any addiction is another frequent one reason for divorce. Divorce of married couples due to all types of addiction-alcohol, prescription drugs, illegal substances, online pornography, and gambling - are some of the main reasons couples divorce. According to the National Drug Use and Health Survey, there are more than 24 million people in the United States. Americans are addicted to drugs and alcohol. The pain caused by one partner due to addiction cannot be overcome by married couples. Numerous divorces were the result of problems with addiction.
5) "Just stop loving / no obvious problems" is another common reason a divorce. Although we find this most common among older adults in their 40s, 50s, and even 60s. This is probably due to the fact that couples separated after they raised their children. They've been working together on a busy schedule and their kids ' schedules for years, and it's not uncommon for couples to come to our office after 20 or 30 years together life and want to break up. They found that they just went their separate ways.
Of course, every marriage should be given the opportunity to solve problems without resorting to divorce. Unfortunately, over the years of our long-standing legal practice at Kevin Hickey Law Partners, it is difficult for most marriages to overcome the reasons for divorce. If your marriage irrevocably broken up, take action to protect yourself and your family.
